Dr. Sadao Harada, who coordinated the Kameoka City @ Gokigen Lab sustainable tour at the end of April 2022, has been appointed as an advisor to Gokigen Labo!
Dr. Harada is an associate professor at the Osaka University of Commerce's School of Public Affairs, and a key person in the field of plastics reduction, researching the problem of marine plastics.
In an interview, he said, "I think that the more enthusiastic people have been working on environmental issues in the past, the more they have sometimes looked up to others because they feel they are doing something very good. You may have been making enemies even though you were doing something good. There are limits to what can be done by individuals alone. Solving environmental problems also requires that we move from individual efforts to a majority of friends, and that we change the social structure by influencing the political system. When citizens raise their voices to protect the environment, politicians create laws and ordinances. I believe that everything from individual efforts to the creation of a system is connected. People often say, 'Wasn't the Hozugawa River created because it is a famous tourist attraction?' However, I think it is important to take initiatives that are rooted in the history and culture of any region. It does not have to be a famous tourist attraction. There are always landscapes and buildings that the locals want to preserve. I think one of the keys is to find them.
Please look forward to the article on the Gokigen Lab Sustainable Tour in Kameoka City with Dr. Harada, who will be working with us to make Gokigen Lab's activities more exciting.
To commemorate Dr. Sadao Harada's appointment as an advisor to Gokigen Lab, we are releasing his treasured podcasts!
At the time of recording, it was March of this year, and we are having a talk with the March item in the Sustainer section. Then in April-May, while Misako Imai, who runs Gokigen Lab, was in Japan, she went to Kameoka City, Kyoto, where Dr. Harada lives, and met with him!
Dr. Harada coordinated the activities to reduce plastic waste in Kameoka City, Kyoto, the first city in Japan to ban plastic bags, and we were able to interview a boatman from the Hozu River rafting boat, city hall, and others! I will publish the article of the interview and other information later.
Here is the first podcast recording with Dr. Harada.
This podcast recording and interview was the beginning of the support for the Sustainer Club and Gokigen Lab. For me (Misako Imai), it is a very memorable episode.
I had been wondering when to release it, so I am happy to be able to share it with you now that Dr. Sadao Harada has been appointed as an advisor to the Gokigen Lab.
So, please listen!
